Academic Questions

What do I have to do to be admitted to Lakeland?
Please see: http://www.lakelandcc.edu/ADMISSIO/ADMISREG/ADMIINFO.HTM After you are admitted, you should meet with an academic counselor (http://www.lakelandcc.edu/ADMISSIO/COUNSEL/CC_HOME.HTM) to discuss a plan of study, including any necessary prerequisites.
What are the required courses for the Microsoft - Microcomputer Specialist or Microsoft Networking or Database Administrator or PC Enterprise or Web Collaboration option/AAB degree or certificate?

How much will this cost?

How long will this take?
The degree programs are designed for two years of full time study. How long you will take depends on how many hours you can safely dedicate to study
What is the difference between a certificate and certification?
The certificate is an academic training program designed to prepare you in one specific skill set. The certification is a vendor-specific or vendor-neutral set of exams that show some degree of proficiency in a specific skill. The certification exams are not given by Lakeland faculty.

Software-Specific Questions

What operating systems are you teaching?
We offer several courses in Windows XP-Professional, Vista, and the networking curriculum uses Windows 2008
Do you offer Exchange Server or SQL-Server?
Yes, we do. We have in SQL-Server (additional information is here), and Exchange Server. We also have courses in other server products.
What about application software?
We offer courses in Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access, and InfoPath
What about programming software?
While we offer many programming languages, our Microsoft-specific offerings include Visual Basic.NET, C#.NET, ASP.NET, and Visual Basic for Applications.
I understand there is a way I can get Microsoft development software (not Microsoft Office, sorry!) by checking it out of the library?
Yes, you can. Lakeland is a member of the Microsoft Developers Academic Alliance (MSDNAA). Please see the FAQ PAGE

Where can I take the tests?
While the location and timing of the vendor exams are up to you, you may arrange with the Skills Max center to take the exams on the main campus. Information on the "Skills Max" IT Testing Center can be found at http://www2.lakelandcc.edu/cbi_steve/viewpage.asp?ID=110

In an effort to cut down on robo-generated email ("Spam"), we have removed the email hyperlinks from this site.
